Be Kind to Yourself
The key message from last night's Imposter Syndrome event with Hood
Posted 3rd September 2019

I was lucky enough to be joined on the panel last night with Maxine Eggenberger, editor of Hood Magazine, president of the Association of Scottish Business Women Lyndsey Greer Phillips, Cabinet Minister for Older People and Equalities, Christina McKelvie MSP and award winning actress and comedian Rachel Jackson. The stories were varied, relatable and really different! We sometimes think of imposter syndrome as being a work related affliction but it occurs in all walks of lives - from the stage and screen, to school, the debating chamber and beyond.
What resonated most for me was the feeling of unity in the room. Many people sharing their own experiences of not leaving the house because of being afraid of strangers, deliberately being self critical when someone offers a compliment and feeling like an imposter because of just being confident! I was really pleased to be part of it and the gin cocktails were fabulous! Thanks Pickerings!

Beat Imposter Syndrome with Hood and Coaching Direct
An evening of inspirational stories, gin cocktails and canapes!
Posted 7th August 2019

Tickets £10 (+ service fee) available via Eventbrite now

Ever got a pay rise, promotion or new job and felt like you didn't deserve it? Do you constantly berate yourself for being ‘under-qualified’ and secretly fear others will come to the same conclusion? Rest assured, you’re not alone. In fact, you're part of the 62% of people who have experienced Imposter Syndrome.
Imposter Syndrome is a term coined in the late ‘70s, but it’s only recently become a psychological phenomenon. Once a taboo subject that left its suffers feeling incredibly vulnerable and anxiety-riddled, mental health professionals, career coaches, and workplaces alike are finally shining a spotlight on Imposter Syndrome—a movement which Hood is incredibly proud to be a part of, too.
On September 3 2019, join Hood columnist Kirsty McWilliam, founder of Coaching Direct UK, president of the Association of Scottish Business Women Lyndsey Greer Phillips, and our editor Maxine Eggenberger, who found herself youngest practising editor in the lifestyle industry after a promotion in 2017, for a night of honest storytelling, delicious drinks, and networking.
They'll also be joined by actress and comedian Rachel Jackson, winner of the 'One To Watch' at the 2019 Herald Scottish Culture Awards and star in recently-released 'Beats', produced by Steven Soderbergh, as well as parts in Scottish TV favourites Outlander, Still Game, Two Doors Down and Scot Squad. Rachel is also a stand up comedian and has performed everywhere from the UK to Berlin, Beijing, NYC, Tokyo and LA.
Together, they’ll share their own experiences of Imposter Syndrome, discuss the different ways it can rear its ugly head and, most importantly, equip you with the tools to beat it for yourself. It’s time we stopped feeling like we don’t deserve our own success—instead, we need to embrace it.
Places are limited and there is a ticket cost of £10 (plus service fee) which includes a divine Pickering’s Gin cocktail and tasty canapes at Otro’s bar.

Strengths Profiling and 121 Coaching Course - Launched!
21st February 2019

According to research only 1 in 3 people can articulate what their strengths actually are - do you know yours? Our latest course will tell you your top realised strengths and also the strengths that you are currently not using. We will then explore, in a one to one coaching session, how to maximise all your strengths to improve your overall performance, engagement and wellbeing.
What will I get with this course?
With this course you will receive your very own unique strengths report (see more on report below) and an opportunity to be coached on a one to one basis with one of our accredited coaches. They will review the report content with you, and support you to build a strengths based development plan. All our reports and coaching are completely confidential.

Why is it important to know your strengths?
Knowing and using your strengths helps you to be your best authentic self, by understanding what you can do and more importantly what you love to do. With the close connection to your energy levels, working within your strengths will raise levels of wellbeing, performance and satisfaction. It will also highlight learned strengths and area that drain your energy.

The report we use, the Strengths Profile, is much more than looking at 'what you are good at'. It takes into account your performance, your energy levels and how often you use these strengths. Our course will also explain more to you about what strengths are, the benefits and how to use them.
What happens next?
Our one to one coaching will start with your completing the Strengths Profile report, which will reveal your top realised and unrealised strengths. During our online coaching session, we will explore your report and support you to develop and apply your strengths.

This is a great tool for starting discussions about performance, motivation, ambition and for making the best use of the skills that exist in your team.
Find out more about the benefits of strengths coaching or go straight to the booking page Strengths Profiling and 121 Coaching.
